August 2010
Dear Swimmers and Divers:
As we start the final back to
school countdown, I hope that
this message finds you fully
enjoying the summer. I am
excited to officially begin as
the new Head Coach for the 2010
Fall Swim and Dive season. I am
further thrilled to introduce
other new individuals to the
coaching staff. Ellen Moskowitz,
a teacher at Roaring Brook, will
be joining as the Assistant
Coach and rounding out the group
will be returning Diving Coach,
Mike Darland. In addition this
year’s team Captains are: Anna
Augustinos, Jamie Lieberman,
Hannah Marks and Anne Pillsbury.
We will be opening the 2010
season August 30th. Please be
sure to take note of our
schedule during pre-season. I
would expect that all members of
the team participate in
pre-season; however, I realized
that schedule conflicts arise,
as it is still summer vacation.
Please contact me if you are
anticipating an absence.
Purchase Pre-Season
Schedule bus will depart from
Horace Greeley High School 30
min. prior to the start of
practice:
- August 30th: 11am-1pm
- August 31st:
2:30pm-4:30pm
- September 1st: 11am-1pm
- September 2nd: 11am-1pm
- September 3rd:
2:30pm-4:30pm
- September 7th: 5pm-7pm
- September 8th:
2:45pm-4:00pm at Horace
Greeley followed by
potential event coordinated
by team Captains.
As in the past, all team
members must attend 10 practices
prior to the first meet in order
to be eligible to participate.
Individuals who participate in
US Swimming or Diving are
expected to complete their 10
practices in a prompt manner.
Once that quota is met, the
expectation is to be with the
team two times per week. Failure
to do so will have consequences.
All other team members are
expected to be present at
practice daily. A complete
season calendar will be
distributed at a later date.
Please also mark your
calendars for a team potluck
dinner sponsored by our parent
committee the evening of August
31st at Horace Greeley High
School. More information will be
coming via email from the parent
committee.
Between now and August 30th I
would recommend you find time to
begin to prepare your muscles
for the start of the season. All
swimmers should be able to swim
at least 2,000 yards. For those
of you not near a pool, I would
recommend that you participate
in running, yoga, pilates or
some other form of
cardiovascular exercise. In
addition, please be certain that
all requisite paperwork is on
file with the Athletic Office
including a current physical.
Forms are available for download
from the Athletic Department
website.
Please be sure to bring a
competitive swimsuit, cap and
goggles to practice daily. These
items are required. Team suits
will be ordered and this will be
a topic in an e-mail later in
the month.
Lastly, our team will again
be participating in the Hudson
River Swim for Life in early
September. This is a wonderful
event of which the team has been
a part of for several years. If
you are interested in
participating, volunteering or
supporting our teammates, please
contact Ellen Rothschild at
ellen.katherine12@gmail.com.
I look forward to meeting
your parents at Meet the Coaches
night in early September. More
information regarding the
specifics of this event will be
coming from the Athletic Office.
In the meantime, please have
your parents contact Lisa
Augustinos to sign up for the
parent distribution list at
laugustinos@optonline.net. I
also ask that you forward this
letter to them so that they are
aware of what is taking place
with our team.
I will be in and out of town
the next few weeks enjoying my
own summer vacation travel. I
will however have access to
email. If you are planning to be
absent or have any other
questions, please contact me or
Coach Moskowitz via email at
suziguzi78@hotmail.com or
elmoskowitz@ccsd.ws
respectively.
I am excited for the season
and look forward to working with
each of you. See you on August
30th.
Happy Summer,
Coach Guziec
